Thank you for coming and joining us. I feel like we're a bit darker than we normally are today. Maybe we should figure out what the lighting is happening, but there we go. So busy week as always. Any news, first of all?

Okay, let's get straight into our topics then. Do you want to go first?

I'll go first this week.

So my topic this week is setting yourself up for success. So I, at the beginning of the week, decided that I wanted to try and be more consistent with going to the gym. And I found the days I went to the gym, I was more productive because I would get up early, I would go to the gym, and then I would have a really good day. So I was thinking if I go to the gym four times a week, so Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, I will hopefully be more productive and I can keep to a schedule and a routine. That's all really good, but I'm going to word camp with you next week.

You are.

[00:01:24.26] - Taylor
And I realised that creating this routine, and things like that, is going to be quickly gone, essentially.

[00:01:36.05] - Gordon
Because of a change in your routine.

[00:01:38.12] - Taylor
Because we're not going to be here. So I am looking around for gyms in Turin.

[00:01:48.22] - Gordon
Which is where we're going to be going in Italy.

[00:01:50.26] - Taylor
So the idea is that by looking up gyms and taking my gym stuff with me, I can continue the routine that I've set of being consistent and going to the gym. I may not be able to go at the same time, for example, just because they may not be open or anything like that, but at least keeping to going to the gym. Will again, keep the routine and keep the habit formed. It would be very easy for me to go, "oh I'll just do it when I get back." But actually, no, I want to make sure that I'm working, I'm going to the gym through whatever I'm doing and try and make it work.

[00:02:29.26] - Gordon
You've been doing that for this week that we've just had. How has it been working for you?

[00:02:35.14] - Taylor
It's been good. I've had a couple of power naps and things like that, but I definitely have been getting a lot more done during the day than when I've been going to the gym on a Monday, then having a really good day, and then just being absolutely shattered and sleeping in till 10am. So it's all of that progress I made on the Monday, just gets lost because I end up sleeping for the whole day on the second day. So by forcing myself to get up early, I'm not giving myself an opportunity to go to sleep. And then it just means I have to go to bed slightly earlier to make sure that I can function properly.

You should go to bed when you're tired, shouldn't you?

[00:03:20.02] - Taylor
Yeah.

And if you are going to get into a routine, that time that you go to bed will probably become more consistent.

Yeah, exactly.

Have you found anywhere yet?

[00:03:31.18] - Taylor
I have. I've found one place, but they don't open to... I can't go until 10am. I think it's 10am to 9pm that I'm able to go. Obviously, I'm going to be at a conference, so it's not ideal because I don't really want to be going at 10am because there's going to be workshops and things like that. I don't really want to be going at 9pm because it's time to go to bed.

And they're closed.

Well, yeah, but I don't want to be going there late and stuff because I don't enjoy going to the gym late. I enjoy going in the morning, getting it done, and then it sets me up for the day.

Very good.

So I'm having a look around and seeing if I can find anywhere at an earlier time.

Very good. Is that everything you want to say about that?

Okay. So the topic for me this week is that next week we're going to WordCamp. Now, Taylor mentioned this, and I've just thought, actually, if you don't manage to find a gym, we are very nearly a mile away from the convention centre where we're staying at our hotel. I don't know if the hotel has any facilities. Probably not. But if they do, that's perfect. And if not, well, we got two miles walk every day, at least, going to and from the hotel. But also we've got probably a lot of walking to do around the WordCamp floor. So you're going to get your step count in, definitely. And if you don't find a gym, at least you'll be getting some exercise, and so will I, which is quite rare. So I just wanted to talk about this because I've not been to WordCamp before. Taylor went last year, and so I don't know anything about it, really. I don't know what to expect. I don't know what I should be looking for, what I should be doing. It's going to be a very new experience for me. But I do know that there's going to be several companies that I deal with; I've bought things from or I have a business relationship with, and it will be nice to meet those people, probably for the first... In fact, definitely for the first time. Shake hands and tell them who I am and see if they actually know me or if they know who their customers are. And I don't know whether there's going to be any big announcements at WordCamp. That's always interesting to find out, isn't it?

Sometimes they have big announcements. The main big announcement is usually next year's venue. That's usually the big announcement they do.

[00:06:16.19] - Gordon
Not really WordPress focused then?

[00:06:19.01] - Taylor
They have, especially at WordCamp Europe, Matthew Mullenweg usually attends, and then there's usually a keynote at the end where him, Giuseffer, and I can't remember the other guy's name, people ask questions basically, and he answers them. There's a lot of stuff where he answers questions about the future of WordPress and where they're heading and what their goals are and plans are.

Okay, that's great. Also, if there's a... I don't know what you call it. A dealers' hall is what I would call it in a...

[00:06:52.04] - Taylor
They have exhibition stands.

[00:06:53.09] - Gordon
Exhibition stands, okay. So exhibition floor. There might be announcements that are happening on there as well. Different companies announcing different products. I'm guessing that AI is going to be a big thing this year. I don't know if it was last year.

[00:07:07.23] - Taylor
Not really.

[00:07:09.05] - Gordon
I think it will be this year, though. Lots of plug-ins and themes and other extensions and services that are going to include lots of AI in them, which will be interesting. Plus, I'm assuming, but I don't know, we'll get to see things in progress, things to come, things that are going to be released. And as someone who builds websites, that's really important for me because I need to know what's going to be happening very soon so that if I've got a build coming up, I can take that into account and maybe not finish the build until that's been released. Or maybe use it as a phase two so that I can add on to it or make suggestions to my customer, because my customers are always looking to me to let them know if there's something that's really important or something that maybe they should be having on their website and why. And so I'm always on the look out and keeping my ear to the ground, as it were, to find out about those things because it's that talking to the customer and messaging them or saying, "did you know that this is about to happen? And it's something that might work well for you." Is the difference between coming to someone like myself or Taylor to do your website rather than a big company that will just do the job and that's it. You'll never hear from them again. I think that's the difference, isn't it?

Yeah, definitely.

So I'm looking forward to that. We've got at least one meal. We are going out with some people that you work with and I've bought from. So that will be exciting. We're looking forward to that. I'm going to mention who they are. Is that okay?

We're going to go and see ManageWP, which is a really, really good company. They do some fantastic products. I got to know about them from a plug-in called Fluent Forms, and you've used that a lot, pretty much exclusively since you've been using WordPress, and I've been using it ever since I came across it. And since then, they've come out with a lot of other products which are just as good. And I don't think there's any project that I start currently that doesn't have one of their products in it in some way. So, yeah, it'd be really nice to meet them for the first time for me. The first time for you?

No, I've met Jules, at least twice at previous WordCamps.

[00:09:46.06] - Gordon
Okay, so this is your third WordCamp?

[00:09:48.13] - Taylor
Yeah.

[00:09:48.26] - Gordon
Okay, so he's going to be showing me the ropes as it were. But it's really interesting. I don't know quite what to expect. I think what we should do is, if we get a chance, because we will be away next Friday when our episode is normally due to come out, we may try and get maybe some footage or we'll get a way to do one of our episodes, but I don't know when it's going to come out. It's unlikely to be Friday at one o'clock. It'll probably be slightly different just because we're both away. But we should try and do something while we're away, I think.

Because that will be nice. Maybe get some video of the exhibition stand and maybe the people we meet, that sort of thing. We'll try and get that for you if we can. It may be that we can't. I don't know what the rules are over there. But I think when we come back, after we've come back, we should talk about what we experienced at WordCamp and what we got out of it, because going to an exhibition, going to a different country, is a lot of time and expense and money, and it needs to be worthwhile. But that worthwhile can be in many different ways. So we'll revisit this when we come back and we'll go through our experience, basically.
